Pakistan has finally released BSF (Border Security Force) jawan Purnam Kumar Sahu, who was detained after allegedly crossing the border by mistake. The incident occurred amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sahu, who was providing security to farmers near the international border in Punjab’s Ferozepur sector, accidentally crossed over to the Pakistani side and was taken into custody by the Pakistani army. He was released today via the Attari-Wagah border without any preconditions. After undergoing necessary security checks, he is expected to return home within two days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pakistan’s decision to release the jawan is seen as a result of diplomatic pressure from India. Although the two countries have a standing agreement to promptly return soldiers who cross the border inadvertently, Pakistan held Sahu in violation of that agreement for 20 days. India had repeatedly demanded his release through flag meetings and diplomatic channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sahu\u2019s wife had appealed to top Indian leaders for his release, prompting India to intensify its efforts. The Indian government reportedly warned Pakistan of serious consequences if any harm came to the jawan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The region along the border, known as the “no man’s land”, is used by farmers from both countries for cultivation. The border is opened during the day for this purpose, with farmers returning by evening. Sahu was reportedly accompanying Indian farmers when the incident occurred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The opposition had criticized the central government over the delay in bringing the jawan back, questioning the timeline of his return. His release is now being viewed as a diplomatic victory for India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
