The accused, Sushil Kumar Farid of Gothagram, Satyabhamapur, Odisha, was apprehended in Mumbai on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">According to police, the scam began in March 2024 when the accused contacted the complainant\u2014a software engineer from Mananthavady\u2014through Telegram. He convinced her that she could earn money by reviewing movies and participating in profitable online trading schemes. Over several days, she transferred a total of \u20b913 lakh to the scammer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Realizing she had been duped, the victim reported the incident through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. The Wayanad Cyber Crime unit launched an extensive investigation that led to the earlier arrest of a Chennai-based auto driver named Murugan. Interrogation revealed that Sushil Kumar had traveled to Chennai, bought bank accounts under fake company names by offering small payments, and used linked phone numbers to carry out the scam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The investigation team later tracked Sushil Kumar to Mumbai. On Wednesday, he was caught while traveling in a luxury car (OD 05A AE 7999) in the posh Royal Palm Estate area. Police seized the car, four mobile phones, SIM cards, bank passbooks, chequebooks, and ATM cards from his possession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Investigations revealed that the accused had been leading a lavish lifestyle in Mumbai, allegedly working in modeling and spending the scammed money on luxury. He reportedly floated fake paper companies across various states and opened bank accounts in the names of unsuspecting individuals. The illicit funds were often converted to cryptocurrency to evade detection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Crucial information about the accused\u2019s vehicle was provided by Padmalal, Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) at the Wayanad RTO, which helped police track him down. The arrest operation was led by Inspector and SHO Shaju Joseph, along with SI A.V. Jaleel, ASIs K. Razak and P.P.
