In a major step toward rehabilitating disaster-affected families, the Kerala government has distributed \u20b915 lakh each to 104 families in Wayanad who chose not to accept housing in the Mundakkai\u2013Chooralmala rehabilitation township project. The total disbursed amount is \u20b916.05 crore.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Wayanad:As part of the government\u2019s ongoing rehabilitation initiative for disaster-affected people in Wayanad, financial assistance was provided to families who opted out of the houses offered in the Kalpetta-based township. On Thursday and Friday, the state government disbursed a total of \u20b916.05 crore to 104 such families, with each receiving \u20b915 lakh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Out of the total amount, \u20b92.8 crore was allocated from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), and \u20b913.52 crore came from the Chief Minister\u2019s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Among the 402 beneficiaries identified for rehabilitation within the township, 107 families had initially opted for the financial aid instead of housing. However, three of them later changed their decision\u2014two expressed interest in receiving a house in the township, and one, a resident of Erattukundu Hill area, was shifted to Meppadi grama panchayat as part of a separate local rehabilitation plan for high-risk zone families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Excluding these three, the remaining 104 families have now received the financial aid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was also clarified that only those who have either received a house in the township or the \u20b915 lakh financial aid are eligible for the temporary rent assistance, and that too only during the month of disbursal and the following month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Of the total 402 eligible families, 292 chose to be rehabilitated with a new house in the township.
