DEHRADUN, India<\/strong> \u2013 July 13, 2025 \u2013 In a significant statewide operation named ‘Operation Kalanemi’ ordered by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Uttarakhand Police have arrested 23 individuals posing as ‘sadhus’ (holy men) across the state. Among those apprehended, ten are from other Indian states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The crackdown, aimed at identifying and apprehending individuals who exploit public faith in the “Devbhoomi” (Land of Gods) through deception, led to numerous arrests. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh confirmed that the arrests were made from various police station limits, including some controversial areas within Dehradun, during an operation conducted on Saturday alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Police officials revealed that these fake sadhus primarily target women and young girls. They allegedly ensnare victims by promising solutions to personal and family problems, subsequently defrauding them. SSP Singh stated that the police acted decisively as part of the new campaign, emphasizing that the Chief Minister had issued clear directives to all station in-charges to take stringent action against such fraudsters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also called for strong action against these individuals.
