However, due to various legal and administrative hurdles \u2013 including land being recorded under the Forest Department, incomplete transfer procedures, clerical errors in records, and a lack of physical possession \u2013 many families never received formal, legal ownership of the land they had cultivated and built homes on for generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>In some cases, the &#8220;Government Grants Act,&#8221; under which land was initially allotted, was repealed in 2018, leaving these families in a legal limbo without clear pathways to ownership. The lack of legal titles has prevented these communities from fully integrating, accessing government schemes, and securing their future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><strong>Government&#8217;s Resolve to Rectify Historical Injustice<\/strong>.<br>During a high-level meeting, Chief Minister Adityanath acknowledged these long-standing grievances. He instructed district magistrates to ensure time-bound action to resolve these complex legal and revenue issues. &#8220;These families, which took refuge in India and have waited for rightful rehabilitation, must be treated with sensitivity and dignity. It is the moral responsibility of the government,&#8221; he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The Chief Minister directed officials to explore new legal mechanisms and provisions within existing laws to address these issues, especially in cases where land was previously allotted but formal ownership was not transferred. He further stated that if land could not be regularized due to technical reasons, alternative plots should be identified and provided to the affected families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>This decision builds upon previous efforts by the Yogi Adityanath government to address this issue. In 2022, the state government had granted land lease to 63 Bengali Hindu families displaced from East Pakistan in 1970 and settled in Meerut&#8217;s Hastinapur, providing them with agricultural and residential plots. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The current directive significantly expands the scope of this rehabilitation effort.<br>&#8220;This is not just a policy decision. It is a sensitive and historic step towards delivering justice to those displaced families that have lived in uncertainty for decades,&#8221; the Chief Minister emphasized. &#8220;This effort must be viewed through the lens of social justice, humanity, and national responsibility. It is a chance to restore dignity to lives long overlooked.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The move has been widely welcomed by the affected communities, who see it as a ray of hope after years of struggle. Local residents, like those in Ramnagar village in Puranpur tehsil of Pilibhit district, expressed relief and optimism that they would finally be treated on par with local people and gain full rights to their land.
