Sree Nagar<\/strong>:The Jammu and Kashmir administration has banned 25 books, including a book by renowned author Arundhati Roy, from schools and libraries in the region. The decision was taken after the Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department found the books to contain “anti-national” and “separatist” content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The ban specifically targets Arundhati Roy’s book, “Walking with the Comrades,” a non-fiction work that documents her travels with Naxalite Maoist guerrillas in the central Indian forests. The administration alleges that the book questions India’s sovereignty and integrity and glorifies extremism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


A government order issued by the School Education Department stated that the books are a potential threat to the “young and impressionable minds” of students and could foster “anti-national sentiments.” The order further claimed that the banned publications glorify terrorism and separatism, which is considered detrimental to the educational environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The decision was based on the recommendations of a committee constituted by the Jammu and Kashmir government to review the content of various books available in educational institutions. The committee’s report concluded that the 25 books in question had a subversive influence and were a threat to national security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The ban has evoked mixed reactions. Supporters of the move argue that it is a necessary step to safeguard national security and prevent the radicalization of youth.
