The Z-category security was granted to the Chief Minister following an attack on her at her camp office in the Civil Lines area on August 20. Gupta, 51, was assaulted by a man during a ‘Jan Sunwai’ (public hearing) program, an incident her office described as a “well-planned conspiracy to kill her.” Following the attack, the Union Home Ministry had directed the CRPF VIP security wing to provide her with Z-category protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, according to official sources, the formal orders for the CRPF protection were pending when the Centre abruptly changed its decision and issued withdrawal orders instead. The Delhi Police, which had been investigating the attack and has so far arrested two individuals, including the prime accused, has now been reinstated as the sole agency responsible for the Chief Minister’s security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This reversal has sparked speculation and criticism from some political quarters. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has questioned the Centre’s decision, with some leaders alleging that it is a politically motivated move.
