The tragedy occurred on Sunday, following days of torrential rainfall, which caused a massive portion of the mountainside to give way. According to a statement from the Sudan Liberation Movement\/Army (SLM), a rebel group that controls the area, the entire village was “completely leveled to the ground.” The SLM appealed to the United Nations and other international aid agencies for help to recover the bodies still buried under the debris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The sole survivor, whose identity has not been revealed, was the only person to escape the carnage.
