The top court has closed the case, stating that the SIT&#8217;s &#8220;exhaustive investigation&#8221; found no violations of law in the center&#8217;s operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The decision was made by a bench of Justices Pankaj Mithal and P.B. Varale after they reviewed the SIT&#8217;s sealed-cover report, which was submitted on Friday. The SIT, which was constituted on August 25, was tasked with investigating a wide range of allegations against Vantara, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Illegal acquisition and smuggling of animals from India and abroad, particularly elephants.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Violations of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and CZA (Central Zoo Authority) guidelines.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Financial irregularities and money laundering.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Allegations of poor animal welfare standards and high mortality rates.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Concerns about the center&#8217;s location near an industrial zone.<br>According to the bench&#8217;s observations, the SIT&#8217;s inquiry was &#8220;detailed and sufficient.&#8221; The probe team, which included former Supreme Court judge Jasti Chelameswar as its head, examined reports, affidavits, conducted site visits, obtained expert opinions, and held personal hearings. The SIT&#8217;s findings, as noted by the court, stated that the acquisition of animals was carried out in &#8220;regulatory compliance&#8221; and that the welfare standards at Vantara &#8220;exceed prescribed benchmark.&#8221; The report also found that mortality figures align with global zoological averages.<br>The Supreme Court not only accepted the report but also issued a stern warning that &#8220;no further complaint or proceedings based upon such same set of allegations shall be entertained before any judicial, statutory or administrative forum.&#8221; This move is aimed at preventing repetitive and baseless inquiries, which the court observed were a &#8220;waste of institutional time and resources.&#8221;<br>Senior advocate Harish Salve, representing Vantara, informed the court that the entire staff of the center was at the disposal of the SIT during their investigation and that everything was shown to them.<br>In a statement following the verdict, Team Vantara welcomed the findings, stating that the &#8220;doubts and allegations raised against Vantara&#8217;s animal welfare mission were without any basis.&#8221; The center expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court and the SIT for validating their work and pledged to continue their mission of animal care with &#8220;humility and devotion.&#8221;This ruling puts an end to a series of public interest litigations (PILs) and media reports that had cast a shadow over the operations of the Vantara project.
