Srinagar, October 6, 2025:<\/strong> According to police sources, Katari facilitated logistical support and guidance to the terrorists who carried out the attack that left 26 people dead and several others injured in the popular tourist destination of Baisaran Valley, near Pahalgam in south Kashmir\u2019s Anantnag district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Investigators uncovered Katari\u2019s role after a damaged mobile phone charger was recovered during Operation Mahadev, an anti-terror operation in which the three perpetrators\u2014Suleiman alias Asif, Jibran, and Hamza Afghani\u2014were neutralized by security forces in July 2025. Forensic tracing of the charger led police to Katari, linking him directly to the attackers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During interrogation, Katari reportedly confessed to meeting the terrorists four times in the Zabarwan hills area near Srinagar, supplying them with electronic items including the charger, and assisting their movement through difficult mountain routes leading to Pahalgam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Police officials said Katari\u2019s arrest has exposed a critical link in the local support network aiding Pakistan-backed terrorist groups operating in south Kashmir. \u201cHe was in constant touch with the group through intermediaries and provided both shelter and logistical help,\u201d said a senior officer from the J&K Police\u2019s Counter Intelligence Unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Authorities described the arrest as a major success in the ongoing effort to dismantle terrorist infrastructure in the region. The case is expected to be transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for further probe into the wider conspiracy and cross-border involvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Earlier, two other suspects were arrested for harboring or assisting the same group of militants.
