Kabul October 10, 2025 \u2014<\/strong> Fierce clashes have broken out along the Afghanistan\u2013Pakistan border after Taliban forces launched coordinated attacks on multiple Pakistani military posts, following an airstrike near Kabul earlier this week. The fighting, spanning at least six Afghan provinces, marks a significant escalation in tensions between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Taliban officials, Afghan forces carried out \u201cmajor defensive operations\u201d targeting Pakistani border installations in Kunar, Nangarhar, Paktia, Khost, Helmand, and Kandahar provinces. The Taliban\u2019s Ministry of Defence spokesperson, Inayat Khawarazam, told Afghan news agency Bakhtar<\/em> that the operations were a \u201cdecisive and successful response\u201d to Pakistan\u2019s earlier aggression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAfghanistan\u2019s armed forces are fully prepared to defend the sovereignty of our nation. If Pakistan continues its attacks, our response will be even stronger,\u201d Khawarazam warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistani military sources confirmed that several of their forward posts came under heavy fire from across the border but claimed that troops had \u201ceffectively retaliated.\u201d Local reports from Dawn News and Geo TV said that the Pakistani army used artillery and aerial drones to strike back against Taliban positions along the border regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The renewed confrontation follows a Pakistani airstrike in Kabul on Thursday, which Islamabad claimed was aimed at eliminating Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants operating inside Afghan territory. Kabul condemned the attack as a violation of its sovereignty, accusing Pakistan of using counterterrorism as a \u201ccover for aggression.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Taliban administration insists that Pakistan\u2019s continued incursions are destabilizing the border region and harming diplomatic relations. \u201cPakistan\u2019s actions are provocative and unjustified. We have the right to protect our borders,\u201d said a senior Afghan security official in Kabul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to regional observers, the conflict comes amid shifting diplomatic alignments, as Afghanistan seeks closer cooperation with India \u2014 a move viewed with suspicion in Islamabad. Analysts believe the latest clashes could further complicate regional security dynamics, particularly as both nations face internal militant threats from Islamic State Khorasan (ISKP) and TTP factions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sources on both sides report civilian displacement in areas near Torkham, Chaman, and Spin Boldak, as artillery fire and gun battles continued late into Friday. Border trade between the two countries has been suspended, with both governments on high alert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
