New Delhi:<\/strong> The closure of 16 Delhi Metro stations, including the Supreme Court Metro Station<\/strong>, amid the ongoing student protest in the national capital became the subject of discussion in the Supreme Court on Thursday. The issue was raised by Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Vikas Singh<\/strong>, who informed the bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant<\/strong> that lawyers, litigants and court registry staff were facing severe difficulties in reaching the court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) temporarily closed several stations in central Delhi, including Supreme Court, Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Mandi House, ITO and Khan Market<\/strong>, citing security concerns following the continuing student demonstrations at Jantar Mantar<\/strong>. While trains continued to operate, they did not halt at the closed stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Addressing the court, Vikas Singh suggested that advocates holding Supreme Court proximity cards and registry staff should be allowed to exit through the Supreme Court Metro Station after undergoing security screening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Security checks can be conducted at the exit itself. Lawyers with Supreme Court proximity cards and registry staff may be allowed to leave through the station, while other passengers can be asked to deboard at nearby stations. This will ensure both security and convenience,” Singh submitted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n Responding to the request, Chief Justice Surya Kant<\/strong> said the Supreme Court administration had already been asked to take up the matter with the Delhi Metro authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “I have already instructed the Registry to speak to the concerned authorities this morning. If the issue is not resolved by lunchtime and my intervention becomes necessary, I will intervene,”<\/strong> the Chief Justice said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n He also directed that no adverse judicial orders should be passed against lawyers who are unable to appear before the court because of the metro closures.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Student organisations have continued their protest at Jantar Mantar for several days, demanding accountability over alleged irregularities in the examination system and calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Security has been tightened across central Delhi, with police deploying additional personnel and imposing traffic restrictions around the protest site. Metro station closures have significantly affected thousands of commuters, including advocates, court staff and government employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Central Government has defended the security measures, stating that the temporary closure of metro stations was necessary to maintain law and order and ensure public safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Officials said security arrangements would be reviewed continuously based on the evolving situation. The government has also reiterated its commitment to strengthening the examination system and ensuring transparency in recruitment and competitive examinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Opposition parties criticised the government over the handling of the student protests, alleging that young people were being denied the opportunity to raise legitimate concerns.
