Guwahati, July 30:<\/strong> Although floodwaters have begun receding in parts of Assam, the humanitarian crisis remains severe. The flood death toll has climbed to 78<\/strong>, while more than 300,000 people<\/strong> continue to be affected across several districts. Thousands of displaced families are unable to return home as roads remain buried under thick layers of mud and debris, delaying relief and rehabilitation efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sivasagar (Worst Affected)<\/strong> Sivasagar remains the worst-hit district. The overflowing Dikhow River triggered devastating flash floods that destroyed villages and damaged roads, bridges, and agricultural land. In one of the worst incidents, Hiloni Nepali Khuti village<\/strong>, home to around 200 Gorkha families, was virtually washed away within an hour, forcing residents to flee with little time to save their belongings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Charaideo<\/strong> Heavy flooding has submerged several villages in Charaideo, causing extensive damage to homes and farmland. Rescue teams continue evacuation operations, while many roads remain inaccessible due to floodwaters and landslides. Relief camps are sheltering thousands of displaced residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jorhat<\/strong> Floodwaters have inundated low-lying areas of Jorhat, disrupting transport and affecting agricultural activities. Authorities are supplying food, drinking water, and medical assistance through relief camps while monitoring river levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur and Dibrugarh<\/strong> These districts continue to report inundated villages, damaged cropland, and disrupted road connectivity. Many families remain displaced, and district administrations are distributing relief materials while assessing crop losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Assam government, along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)<\/strong>, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF)<\/strong>, Army personnel, and local administration, continues large-scale rescue and relief operations. Relief camps are providing food, drinking water, medicines, and temporary shelter to displaced families. Authorities are also restoring roads, bridges, electricity, and communication services in flood-hit areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma<\/strong> has said that rehabilitation has become the government’s immediate priority.
