Saudi Arabia has moved to strengthen its military defences amid escalating Houthi attacks, with Pakistan and T\u00fcrkiye agreeing to rapidly deploy the military forces and capabilities required to support the Kingdom. The move comes as the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement<\/strong>, signed by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and T\u00fcrkiye, enters a more active phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A high-level meeting involving defence and foreign affairs officials from the three countries was held in Riyadh amid growing concerns over attacks targeting Saudi territory and critical infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the meeting, the three countries agreed to activate \u201ccollective deterrence measures\u201d<\/strong> and accelerate the deployment of agreed military forces and capabilities to Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mecca Defence Pact Comes Into Focus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and T\u00fcrkiye signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement<\/strong> on August 7. A key provision of the pact states that an armed attack against any one of the three countries would be treated as an attack against all three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement has been compared to NATO’s collective-defence principle, although the three countries have not publicly disclosed detailed rules on the size or nature of military assistance to be provided in a specific conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest decision in Riyadh represents the clearest move so far to translate the agreement into practical military cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan Promises Support<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan has repeatedly reaffirmed its commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif had earlier said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhatever means are available at our disposal, they’ll be available to Saudi Arabia also.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The statement signalled Islamabad’s readiness to provide Saudi Arabia with the military capabilities available to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Pakistan has not publicly confirmed that its forces would directly participate in offensive operations inside Yemen. The latest agreement focuses primarily on strengthening Saudi Arabia’s defence and ensuring rapid deployment of agreed military capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

T\u00fcrkiye Also Steps Up Support<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

T\u00fcrkiye, which already maintains extensive defence ties with Saudi Arabia, is also expected to contribute to the Kingdom’s security requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Defence Minister Ya\u015far G\u00fcler were among the senior officials involved in the discussions. T\u00fcrkiye’s growing defence cooperation with Saudi Arabia includes drones and other military technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new defence arrangement could further deepen military coordination between Ankara and Riyadh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saudi Campaign Against Houthis Intensifies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The developments come as Saudi-backed Yemeni forces have intensified operations against the Iran-aligned Houthi movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reuters reported that Saudi-backed government forces had made advances near the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait, while Saudi-led coalition aircraft have provided air support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Houthi movement has, meanwhile, continued launching missile and drone attacks in the region, raising concerns over the security of Saudi territory and vital energy and transport infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holy Sites Mentioned<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Saudi officials have also raised concerns over threats to the Kingdom’s holy sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saudi Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman referred to attacks against the Kingdom and its \u201choly sites\u201d<\/strong>, while the three countries condemned attacks threatening Saudi Arabia’s security and civilian infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reference to Mecca and Medina has added further urgency to the collective-defence discussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diplomatic Option Remains Open<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Despite the military preparations, diplomatic efforts have not been completely ruled out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan has said that the possibility of engaging with the Houthis should also be examined. Islamabad has indicated that the proposal for political engagement with the Houthi movement, including suggestions involving Iran, could be discussed among the countries involved in the Mecca pact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This suggests that the emerging strategy could involve both military deterrence and diplomatic efforts to contain the conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Happens Next?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The immediate focus will be on the scale and nature of the proposed military deployment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three countries have agreed to accelerate the deployment of military forces and capabilities, but details such as the number of troops, specific military units and deployment locations have not been publicly disclosed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Importantly, international reports currently indicate preparations for rapid deployment rather than confirming that large numbers of Pakistani and Turkish troops have already arrived in Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
