Thiruvananthapuram:
The Department of General Education, Kerala, has issued an order revising school timings for Classes 8, 9, and 10. As per the new schedule, effective on working days except Fridays, students in these classes will attend school from 9:45 AM to 4:15 PM, adding 30 extra minutes to the daily schedule.
The new timetable includes eight periods each day:
The first two periods in the morning will be 45 minutes each.
After a 10-minute break, the next two periods will be 40 minutes each.
A 1-hour lunch break will follow.
Post-lunch, there will be two more 40-minute periods, a 5-minute break, and then a 35-minute period.
The eighth and final period will be 30 minutes long.
The change aims to ensure that high school students meet the mandatory 1100 instructional hours as stipulated in Kerala’s education policy.
Additionally, there will be extra working Saturdays during the academic year:
Upper Primary (Classes 5 to 7) will have classes on July 26 and October 25.
High School students (Classes 8 to 10) will attend school on six Saturdays: July 26, August 16, October 4, October 25, January 3, and January 31.
The revised schedule is part of the state’s efforts to strengthen academic rigor and compensate for lost instructional time.
