Heavy Rains Likely in Northern Kerala; Red Alert Issued in Multiple Districts

Thiruvananthapuram:The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast intense rainfall across northern Kerala over the coming days. A red alert indicating extremely heavy rainfall has been issued for several districts from Saturday through June 16.

On Friday, four northern districts are under an orange alert for very heavy rain. Widespread rainfall is expected across the entire state on June 15 and 16.

Regions in Karnataka bordering northern Kerala are also likely to receive heavy rainfall, which could increase water flow into Kerala’s rivers.

A powerful cyclonic system (tropical storm) that formed over the South China Sea is expected to weaken as it makes landfall by Friday afternoon. This weakening will normalize the southwest monsoon flow, potentially intensifying rainfall over Kerala starting Friday afternoon.
