Triggered by a series of provocative incidents following the Bakrid festival, the situation has escalated into violent clashes, necessitating the deployment of central forces and the implementation of strict law enforcement measures.

Tensions in Dhubri intensified after the discovery of animal remains near a religious site shortly after Bakrid on June 7. This discovery was compounded by the circulation of provocative posters promoting integration with Bangladesh and desecration near places of worship. The emergence of additional inflammatory posters, reportedly issued by an organization called “Nabin Bangla,” further aggravated communal sentiments, leading to clashes and stone-pelting between groups.
Government Response:
In light of the growing violence, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared a zero-tolerance policy toward communal provocation. The state government issued shoot-at-sight orders in extreme situations and deployed the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to stabilize the region. An investigation was also launched into the influx of cattle from West Bengal, suspected to be orchestrated by a “beef mafia” believed to be fueling unrest.
