Two Killed in Separate Elephant Attacks in Nilgiris and Palakkad.


Two people lost their lives in separate wild elephant attacks reported from the Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu and Palakkad district in Kerala.

In the Nilgiris, 67-year-old Devarshola Aaru was killed following an attack by a wild elephant. The incident occurred in a forest-adjacent locality, and forest officials are currently monitoring the area.

In another tragic incident, a man was killed in an elephant attack early Thursday morning in Mundur, Palakkad. The deceased has been identified as Kumaran, a resident of Njarakkode. The attack reportedly occurred around 3:00 AM when Kumaran stepped out of his house, which is situated near a forest boundary.

According to locals, they came to know of the incident only around 5:00 AM. The elephant is said to have trampled Kumaran, causing fatal injuries, particularly to his chest. His body has not yet been removed from the scene but will soon be shifted to the district hospital for postmortem examination.

Residents reported that the elephant remained in the vicinity even after the incident. Notably, this is the second fatal elephant attack in the region within the past three months.

Authorities are urging residents in forest-adjacent areas to exercise extreme caution and avoid venturing out during nighttime and early morning hours.
