New Delhi: The 71st National Film Awards, celebrating the best of Indian cinema for the year 2023, were announced in New Delhi, with several major wins for popular and critically acclaimed films.
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, in a landmark moment, won his first-ever National Award for Best Actor for his dual role in the blockbuster “Jawan.” He shared the prestigious honor with Vikrant Massey, who was recognized for his powerful performance in the critically acclaimed film “12th Fail.”
Rani Mukerji was awarded Best Actress for her moving and compelling portrayal of a mother fighting for her children in “Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway.” The film “12th Fail,” directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, was also named the Best Feature Film, capping off its successful run.
The jury’s announcement at the National Media Centre highlighted a diverse range of talent across various categories and languages. Other key winners include:
- Best Direction: Sudipto Sen for “The Kerala Story”
- Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment: “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani”
- Best Hindi Film: “Kathal: A Jackfruit of Mystery”
- Best Supporting Actor: Vijayaraghavan for “Pookkaalam” and Muthupettai Somu Bhaskar for “Parking”
- Best Supporting Actress: Urvashi for “Ullozhukku” and Janki Bodiwala for “Vash”
- Best Female Playback Singer: Shilpa Rao for the song “Chaleya” from “Jawan”
- Best Male Playback Singer: PVM S Rohit
- Best Cinematography: Prasanthanu Mohapatra for “The Kerala Story”
- Best Children’s Film: “Naal 2”
