Nigerian Troops Eliminate Over 50 Terrorists in Major Counter-Offensives Across Borno and Yobe.

ABUJA/MAIDUGURI, October 23, 2025: Nigerian military forces under Operation Hadin Kai have killed more than 50 terrorists in a series of coordinated operations following simultaneous attacks on army positions across the volatile Borno and Yobe States, the epicenters of the country’s prolonged insurgency.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by Sani Uba, Spokesman for the Joint Task Force (JTF) North East, the operations unfolded between midnight and 4:00 a.m., when terrorist groups launched near-simultaneous assaults on troop locations in Dikwa, Mafa, Gajibo, and Katarko.

“The troops fought gallantly and professionally, repelling the attacks and inflicting devastating losses on the terrorists,” the military statement read. “Over 50 terrorists were neutralized in the coordinated engagements, preventing the enemy from overrunning any military position.”

The statement described how Nigerian soldiers repelled multiple waves of attacks, demonstrating improved battlefield coordination and intelligence-led responses. The offensive actions reportedly forced surviving insurgents to retreat deep into the Lake Chad Basin region — a known stronghold of extremist factions.

Insurgency Context and Group Involvement

While the military did not explicitly identify the affiliations of all neutralized terrorists, the affected regions — particularly Mafa and Dikwa — are recognized hotspots for both Boko Haram (Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad — JAS) and its breakaway faction, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Both militant groups have been locked in a fierce turf war while continuing their insurgent campaigns against the Nigerian state.

In recent months, intelligence sources have reported renewed activity in Lake Chad, Sambisa Forest, and northern Yobe, indicating an attempted resurgence of terrorist elements after suffering significant territorial and leadership losses in 2024.

Military Commitment to Counter-Insurgency

The Nigerian Armed Forces reiterated their determination to maintain operational pressure on all terrorist factions in the northeast, vowing to sustain proactive offensive measures.

“Our troops remain resolute in defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity. The enemy suffered a heavy, decisive, and bloody blow,” the JTF spokesman affirmed.

Security analysts note that Thursday’s engagements mark one of the most successful single-day counter-insurgency actions in recent months, reflecting enhanced coordination between ground troops, air assets, and local intelligence networks.
