Thrissur, Kerala:
A 25-year-old man from Assam was arrested in Thrissur district for allegedly circulating messages promoting religious hatred through social media platforms, police said on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Roshidul Islami, a native of Morigaon district in Assam. He was taken into custody by the Kaipamangalam Police following a tip-off received through confidential intelligence inputs.
According to police officials, a special investigation team conducted a targeted operation based on the secret information, leading to the arrest of the accused from within the Thrissur district limits. Preliminary investigations revealed that Roshidul Islami had been actively sharing and amplifying provocative content intended to incite communal discord.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Thrissur Rural District Police Chief B. Krishnakumar, who personally coordinated the enforcement action. Police sources stated that the digital devices used by the accused have been seized for forensic examination, and further analysis is underway to identify the network, reach, and intent behind the circulation of the objectionable content.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act, dealing with promotion of enmity between different religious groups and misuse of social media platforms.
Police officials reiterated that strict action will be taken against individuals attempting to disturb communal harmony, especially through online platforms, and warned that cyber surveillance has been intensified across the district.
Further investigation is in progress, and the accused will be produced before the court as per legal procedures.
