Asad Abu Shari’a, the leader of the Mujahideen Brigades, was confirmed dead following an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet airstrike in Gaza City on Saturday, June 7, 2025. The operation targeted the Mujahideen Brigades, a radical Palestinian faction that collaborated with Hamas during the October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel. These attacks included the raid on the Nir Oz kibbutz, resulting in the deaths of 47 individuals and the abduction of 76 others. The remains of several victims, including Thai national Nattapong Pinta, were recovered during the operation .
The Mujahideen Brigades played a significant role in the October 7 massacre, assisting Hamas in kidnappings and murders. In addition to Abu Shari’a, another senior leader, Mahmoud Kaheel, was killed in a separate strike . The IDF and Shin Bet have vowed to continue operations to locate and eliminate all terrorists involved in the massacre and ongoing hostage situations.
The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a U.S.- and Israel-backed aid organization, suspended operations due to threats from Hamas, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region .
