New Delhi :India reported 306 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, raising the country’s total number of active cases to 7,121, according to official data released by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday. During the same period, six COVID-related deaths were reported across the country — three from Kerala, two from Karnataka, and one from Maharashtra.
Kerala recorded the highest number of new infections in a single day, with 170 cases reported in the last 24 hours. This brings the state’s total active cases to 2,223. Gujarat followed with 114 new infections and 1,223 active cases, while Karnataka reported 100 new cases and 459 active infections.
Among the fatalities in Kerala were an 87-year-old woman and two men aged 69 and 78, all of whom had comorbid conditions. Additionally, a 51-year-old woman with hypertension and type 2 diabetes, and a 79-year-old man with hypertension, succumbed to the virus.
Health officials continue to monitor the situation as case numbers show a slight uptick in several states.
