CHENNAI — The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today (August 16, 2025) conducted raids on premises linked to Tamil Nadu Rural Development Minister I. Periyasamy in the Dindigul district. The raids, which began in the early hours of the morning, are reportedly part of a money laundering investigation.
According to sources, a team of ED officials, accompanied by security personnel, arrived at the Minister’s residences and offices simultaneously. The raids are being conducted at multiple locations in and around Dindigul. The specific details of the case are yet to be officially disclosed, but the action is believed to be related to the ongoing scrutiny of a few prominent political figures in the state.
The raids on Minister Periyasamy’s properties come just months after the ED launched similar actions against other high-profile politicians in Tamil Nadu, including ministers and former ministers. The Opposition has accused the central government of using federal agencies to target political rivals.
Minister Periyasamy, a senior leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), has been a prominent figure in Tamil Nadu politics for several decades. The DMK has not yet issued an official statement on the raids, but party members have expressed strong disapproval, terming the action as politically motivated. The outcome of the raids and the details of the investigation are awaited.
