Superstar Darshan Asks Court for Mercy Killing, Cites Harsh Prison Conditions.

Bengaluru, India – Kannada superstar Darshan Thoogudeepa, who is an accused in a high-profile murder case, has made a dramatic appeal to the court, asking for “poison” to end his life. The actor, who is currently lodged in the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, stated that he has not seen sunlight for days and is suffering from severe health issues, making his imprisonment unbearable.

The shocking request was made during a court hearing on Tuesday in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case. The actor, appearing before the City Civil and Sessions Court via video conferencing, told the judge that his health was deteriorating. “I have not seen sunlight for 30 days and my hands have developed a fungal infection,” he reportedly told the court, adding that he was facing “big problems” in jail.

The judge, however, rejected his plea to be transferred to the Ballari jail and sternly warned him against making such statements. The court did allow some concessions, permitting him to walk within the prison premises.

Darshan was recently re-arrested after the Supreme Court of India canceled the bail previously granted to him by the Karnataka High Court. The Supreme Court had observed that the high court had made a “manifest perversity” by considering his celebrity status while granting bail and noted that he could influence witnesses.
The case pertains to the brutal murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan who had allegedly sent obscene messages to actress Pavithra Gowda, a close associate of Darshan. Darshan, along with Pavithra and several others, is accused of abducting, torturing, and murdering Renukaswamy.
