From Protests to Plots: Discord Chats Reveal Alleged Kerala Arms Link in Nepal’s ‘Gen Z’ Uprising.

KATHMANDU, October 2025: A chilling revelation has emerged from an in-depth investigation by The Kathmandu Post, exposing how Discord — a social media platform widely used by gamers — allegedly became the secret command center for Nepal’s “Gen Z” anti-corruption protests in September. The report details shocking online exchanges calling for the procurement of weapons from India, including a direct reference to a possible arms supplier based in Kerala.

According to The Kathmandu Post’s investigative piece titled “How the two days of Nepal’s September protests were planned on Discord,” thousands of young protesters across Nepal coordinated their actions through private Discord servers. What began as an organized digital movement against corruption and unemployment soon descended into violent confrontations, arson, and attacks on government property — events that ultimately led to the downfall of Nepal’s coalition government.

Key Revelations from Discord Chats:

  • Call for Weapons:
One of the Discord channels, reportedly central to protest coordination, contained alarming messages about preparing for “extended resistance.” Chat logs showed users discussing the need to acquire firearms and explosives “if the protests stretch beyond a few days.”
  • Kerala Connection:
The investigation cites a message sent by a user identified as “Greenishhhhhh” at 11:56 PM on September 8, who claimed to have an Indian connection for procuring arms: “I know a dealer from Kerala, India — he can bring them if I ask.”
  • Grenade Import Claims:
In earlier exchanges, the same user was seen boasting about arranging weapons imports from across the Indian border, writing: “I’ll import from India. About 50 grenades might come.”
  • Plans for Violence:
Other parts of the chat revealed discussions on making Molotov cocktails and identifying “key targets,” including government buildings and media offices. However, some participants appeared to oppose such actions, urging restraint and discipline.

Security experts quoted in The Kathmandu Post warned that these revelations mark a new era in digital radicalization, where encrypted and gaming-oriented platforms are being exploited to organize real-world unrest. “The Gen Z protests started as a legitimate civic movement, but parts of it appear to have been hijacked by more extreme voices,” the report noted.

Nepal’s authorities have reportedly begun examining possible cross-border links in illegal arms procurement networks, while Indian intelligence agencies are said to be monitoring the alleged Kerala connection mentioned in the Discord logs.

The exposé underscores the dark side of online activism — how platforms designed for community and communication can be manipulated to fuel violence and destabilize governments.
