Hooghly:In a shocking development from West Bengal, Sheikh Bakibullah, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Minority Cell in Hooghly district, was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Friday. His body was discovered hanging from the balcony of his residence in the Goghat area, triggering widespread concern and political tension.
Mysterious Death Raises Eyebrows
Local residents reportedly found Bakibullah’s body and immediately informed the police. Preliminary reports suggest that the BJP leader was found hanging, but the exact cause of death remains unclear. His family members and local BJP leaders have raised suspicions, claiming it does not appear to be a case of suicide.
“The manner in which he was found and the circumstances around his death are suspicious. We demand a full investigation,” said a senior BJP leader from the district.
Political Reaction and Demands for Inquiry
The BJP has strongly condemned the incident and has called for a thorough and impartial probe into Bakibullah’s death. Several party leaders have alleged that the incident might be politically motivated, pointing to a series of threats and harassment that the deceased leader reportedly faced in recent months.
“We believe this is more than what it looks like. There must be accountability. We demand a CBI investigation,” BJP Minority Morcha national vice-president said in a statement to the press.
Police Investigation Underway
The local police have launched an investigation and stated that all angles, including homicide, are being explored. Forensic experts have collected evidence from the site, and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
“A case of unnatural death has been registered. We are awaiting the post-mortem report. We are also examining CCTV footage and speaking to neighbors and family members,” a senior police officer said.
Sheikh Bakibullah was a prominent figure in the BJP’s minority outreach in the region and had recently been active in political campaigns and local party-building efforts. His sudden and unexplained death has sent shockwaves through the local political community.
