NEW DELHI, India – On the solemn occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of Army Staff, provided a comprehensive overview of the Indian Army’s readiness, transformative changes, and the decisive response delivered to Pakistan during the Kargil conflict. His address underscored the nation’s unwavering resolve and the synergy among its defense forces.
General Dwivedi specifically pointed out that the Indian Army delivered a “befitting response” to Pakistan’s actions, which occurred between May 7 and 9 during the Kargil War. He emphasized the impregnable nature of India’s ground-based air defense, stating that it stood as an “invincible wall that no drone or missile could penetrate.” This robust defense mechanism played a crucial role in countering enemy aerial threats and protecting Indian positions.
The Army Chief attributed the resounding victory in Kargil to a “whole-of-nation approach,” where the Army, Air Force, Navy, and other government departments worked in seamless coordination. This integrated effort, he stressed, was fundamental to overcoming the formidable challenges posed by the high-altitude conflict and securing a decisive victory for India.
General Dwivedi’s remarks served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers and the strategic foresight that led to the successful expulsion of intruders from Indian territory. His address also highlighted the continuous evolution and modernization of the Indian armed forces, ensuring their capability to safeguard national sovereignty against all threats. The commemoration of Kargil Vijay Diwas not only honors the valor of the fallen heroes but also reaffirms the nation’s commitment to maintaining a strong and vigilant defense posture.
