NEW DELHI — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced the appointment of Bihar minister Nitin Nabin as its National Working President, a move widely seen as part of the party’s effort to introduce younger leadership at the national level.
The decision was taken by the BJP’s Parliamentary Board and is being viewed as a significant organisational step ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.
Young Leader with Organisational Background
Nitin Nabin, 45, is currently the Minister for Road Construction in the Bihar government and a five-time MLA from the Bankipur constituency in Patna. His elevation reflects the party’s emphasis on leaders with grassroots political experience and organisational exposure.
Likely Successor to J.P. Nadda
Party sources indicate that Nabin is being positioned as a potential future successor to BJP National President J.P. Nadda, whose term was extended to oversee the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The appointment of a Working President is a conventional practice within the BJP ahead of the election of a full-term national president.
Prime Minister’s Congratulations
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nabin on X (formerly Twitter), describing him as a “young and industrious leader with rich organisational experience” and a “hardworking karyakarta.” The Prime Minister said he was confident that Nabin’s energy and commitment would strengthen the party organisation.
Experience in Party Organisation
Nabin has held several key organisational roles within the BJP, including serving as National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the party’s youth wing. He was also involved as co-in-charge of the BJP’s organisational efforts in Chhattisgarh, where the party recently achieved a significant electoral victory.
Focus on Upcoming Elections
Son of veteran BJP leader Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, Nitin Nabin becomes one of the youngest leaders to hold such a senior organisational post in the party. In his new role, he is expected to play a key part in strengthening the BJP’s organisational machinery ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, including in states such as West Bengal and Kerala.
