Thiruvananthapuram:Kerala’s Education Minister V. Sivankutty has sought public opinion on a proposal to shift the annual school holidays from April-May to June-July. The Minister put forward this suggestion through a Facebook post, aiming to initiate a constructive discussion on the matter.
Currently, Kerala experiences severe heat during April and May, which makes the summer vacation challenging for children. Conversely, when schools reopen in June, the monsoon season begins, often leading to heavy rainfall, class cancellations, and disruptions to studies. It is in light of these circumstances that the government is considering the idea of moving the summer break to June and July.
Minister Sivankutty has asked how this proposed change might affect children’s education and health, and how practical it would be for teachers and parents. He has also invited opinions on how Kerala can draw inspiration from the holiday arrangements in other states and countries.
This move by the Minister aims to gather public feedback and suggestions, fostering a proactive discussion on a significant change to the state’s academic calendar.
