HYDERABAD – A joyous Sri Krishna Janmashtami procession in Ramanthapur, Hyderabad, turned into a tragedy on Sunday night when a chariot carrying idols came into contact with a high-tension electric wire. The devastating incident resulted in the electrocution and death of five men, with four others sustaining injuries.
The accident occurred late Sunday night in the Ramanthapur area, under the Uppal Police Station’s jurisdiction. According to police reports, the procession’s vehicle broke down, and participants were manually pushing the chariot when it accidentally brushed against the overhead electric wires.
The sudden electric shock instantly killed five individuals, who were identified as Krishna Yadav (21), Srikanth Reddy (35), Suresh Yadav (34), Rudra Vikas (39), and Rajendra Reddy (45). Four others were injured and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were shifted to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
The Uppal police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident. Local leaders have expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased and have called for government support for the victims’ families. The tragedy has cast a pall of gloom over the Janmashtami celebrations in the city.
