Coimbatore:A tragic stampede during a political rally organized by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay in Karur, Tamil Nadu, on September 27, 2025, resulted in the deaths of at least 39 individuals and injuries to over 50 others. The incident occurred when the crowd, reportedly exceeding 20,000—double the permitted number—surged toward the stage as Vijay’s vehicle arrived nearly six hours late. The victims included men, women, and children, many of whom fainted due to the dense crowd and were subsequently trampled .
In response to the tragedy, Raghul Gandhi RGK, National Organizer of the Hindustan Janata Party and Coimbatore District President of the International Legal Rights and Human Justice Council, has filed a formal complaint via email and WhatsApp. The complaint, addressed to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Director General of Police, Karur District Collector, and Karur Superintendent of Police, calls for appropriate legal action and the registration of a murder case against TVK leader Vijay, state secretary Pushpi Anand, district leader Adhav Arjun, and other district executives deemed responsible for the incident.
Gandhi RGK has vowed to pursue legal avenues to ensure that those accountable face appropriate punishment. He emphasized the need for stringent measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
The Tamil Nadu government has announced compensation of ₹10 lakh for the families of the deceased and initiated a judicial inquiry led by retired judge Aruna Jagadeesan to investigate the incident .
