Two ‘Hybrid’ Terrorists Arrested in Sopore Joint Security Operation; Arms Seized.


Srinagar:Security forces achieved a significant breakthrough in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore sub-district, arresting two ‘hybrid’ terrorists during a targeted operation. The arrests were made during a joint checking exercise aimed at curbing terrorist movement in the region.
The operation was carried out jointly by the 22 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) of the Army, the 179 Battalion (BN) of the CRPF, and the J&K Police at a check post established at Sadiq Colony, Mominabad, Sopore.

  • Circumstances of Detention: The joint team had set up the checkpoint following a specific input regarding the movement of suspicious individuals. During the checking process, two individuals, approaching from the Fruit Mandi Sopore side towards the Ahat Baba Crossing, attempted to flee upon noticing the presence of the police and security personnel.
  • Prompt Action: The security team acted swiftly and overpowered both individuals, apprehending them on the spot.
  • Identities of the Arrested:
  • Shabir Ahmad Najar: Son of Mohammad Akbar Najar, resident of Mohalla Tawheed Colony, Maazbugh.
  • Shabir Ahmad Mir: Son of Mohammad Sultan Mir, resident of Brath Sopore.
    Recoveries and Investigation
    The security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the possession of the arrested terrorists, confirming their involvement in terror-related activities.

    A case (FIR No. 253/2025) under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Sopore, and a detailed investigation has been initiated to uncover their complete network and planned activities.
    The police have termed the arrested individuals as ‘hybrid’ terrorists—a term used for operatives who lead normal lives without being permanently on the police radar and are assigned specific tasks by their handlers before slipping back into their routine.
