Jammu & Kashmir:
The Indian Army detected multiple suspected Pakistani drones along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, prompting troops to open fire and activate counter-drone measures, officials said on Tuesday. The drones were spotted hovering over forward areas before retreating towards Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) following swift military action.
According to security sources, the aerial objects were observed entering Indian airspace from across the border late at night. Troops deployed along the LoC immediately responded by firing and employing counter-Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) measures to prevent any possible infiltration or delivery of arms, ammunition, or contraband.
This incident marks the second reported drone sighting in the Rajouri sector within a few days, heightening security concerns in the border region, particularly in view of upcoming national events. Following the sightings, security forces intensified surveillance and launched ground search operations to verify whether any materials had been dropped.
Officials said the Army remains on high alert across sensitive sectors along both the Line of Control and the International Border. Similar suspected drone movements were also reported recently in areas near Samba and Poonch districts.
In a related development, the Indian Army Chief has conveyed New Delhi’s concerns to Pakistan, urging it to curb drone intrusions and warning that such activities are unacceptable. The repeated sightings have added to tensions in the region, which has long remained vulnerable to cross-border surveillance and infiltration attempts.
Drone incursions from across the border have been reported periodically in recent years, with Indian security agencies viewing them as a serious threat to national security. The Army has continued to upgrade its counter-drone capabilities to effectively respond to such challenges.
