Ayodhya: More details have emerged in the ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities involving donations received by the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government, has reportedly indicated that 60 kilograms of silver bars donated to the temple are unaccounted for.
According to preliminary findings, the missing silver is believed to be part of the offerings made to the deity during the Pran Pratishtha (consecration) ceremony. Investigators suspect that the disappearance of these silver bars may have caused losses worth several crores of rupees. The probe is expected to expand beyond temple employees as investigators examine possible links involving other individuals.
Meanwhile, there are indications that changes could be made to the temple trust’s administration. Reports suggest that Champat Rai, General Secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust and a senior VHP leader, was not included in a recent meeting attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Investigators are also examining reports that gold, silver, diamonds, and other valuable items donated to the temple may be missing. Preliminary estimates reportedly suggest that the alleged irregularities could involve assets worth around ₹200 crore.
The SIT had earlier taken five temple employees into custody for questioning. During searches, officials reportedly recovered ₹20 lakh in cash from the residence of one of the individuals, along with other items under investigation.
The probe was launched after allegations surfaced regarding the handling of the enormous volume of donations received by the Ram Temple. The Uttar Pradesh government subsequently formed a Special Investigation Team to conduct a comprehensive inquiry.
As part of the investigation, the SIT has closely examined every stage of the donation management process, including the opening of donation boxes, counting of cash, record maintenance, and the transfer of funds to banks. A three-member team led by Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant conducted an inspection at the temple premises that lasted more than eight hours.
The investigation was ordered by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath following allegations raised by Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav regarding possible irregularities in the management of temple donations.
Authorities have not yet released a final report, and the allegations remain under investigation. The SIT’s findings are expected to determine whether any criminal wrongdoing occurred and identify those responsible.
