Rahul Gandhi Delivers Strong Message to CEC Gyanesh Kumar at INDIA Bloc Rally in Delhi

New Delhi, November 1, 2026: Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi delivered a strong message to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, accusing him of undermining democratic institutions and attempting to silence the voices of Indian citizens during a massive INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on Sunday.

Addressing thousands of opposition supporters, Gandhi demanded Kumar’s removal from office and warned that the opposition would pursue legal action over alleged electoral irregularities. He described protecting citizens’ voting rights and the Constitution as the central objective of the protest.

“Gyanesh Kumar has committed the biggest crime by trying to silence the voice and soul of the nation,” Gandhi said, reiterating that the opposition’s campaign was directed at protecting democracy rather than targeting individuals.

Opposition Demands CEC’s Resignation

The rally, organised under the INDIA bloc’s “Chalo Dilli” campaign, brought together leaders from several opposition parties to protest the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged large-scale voter deletions.

Gandhi said removing Kumar from office would be the first step towards restoring democratic institutions. He also accused the ruling BJP of benefiting from alleged electoral manipulation and warned that those responsible would face legal consequences.

The opposition’s allegations have been rejected by the BJP and the Election Commission, which maintain that the voter-list revision is intended to remove duplicate and ineligible registrations.

Background: Opposition’s Campaign Against the Election Commission

The November 1 rally followed a symbolic impeachment-style proceeding against CEC Gyanesh Kumar held by INDIA bloc leaders on October 31 at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence.

Opposition leaders raised allegations concerning voter deletions, electoral-roll revisions and the functioning of the Election Commission. The bloc has also called for changes to the electoral process, including replacing electronic voting machines with paper ballots.

The Election Commission has denied allegations of political bias and maintained that eligible voters who have been wrongly removed can seek re-enrolment.

The rally marks another escalation in the opposition’s campaign over electoral transparency and voting rights, with INDIA bloc leaders pledging to continue their protest until their demands are addressed.
