Heavy Rains Predicted in Kerala; Red Alert Issued in Several Districts.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of intensified monsoon activity across Kerala in the coming days. Authorities have advised residents, especially those living in coastal regions, to remain vigilant as the state is expected to receive heavy rainfall.

In the next few hours, isolated moderate rainfall accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h is likely in the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kannur, and Kasaragod.

A cyclonic circulation has formed over the northern Andhra Pradesh coast and the adjacent coastal Odisha region. Strong westerly winds continue to prevail over Kerala, contributing to the likelihood of widespread rainfall across the state over the next seven days.

The IMD has forecast isolated very heavy rainfall from June 12 to 16, with the possibility of extremely heavy rain in some areas between June 14 and 16. During this period, wind speeds over Kerala could reach up to 50–60 km/h.

In view of the likelihood of intense rainfall, the IMD has issued a Red Alert in parts of Kerala for the next five days, urging the public and local authorities to take all necessary precautions.
