KALPETTA, Wayanad – July 13, 2025 – Wayanad Police have successfully apprehended a gang of Palakkad residents who allegedly committed a robbery of nearly ₹1.5 crore in Maharashtra and subsequently fled into Kerala. The suspects were dramatically caught and handed over to Maharashtra Police.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Nandakumar (32) from Kummatarimedu, Chirakkadavu, Chithira House
- Ajithkumar (27) from Kanikulam, Kanjikulam
- Suresh (47) from Polpulli, Palanamkurishi
- Vishnu (29) from Karekkattuparambu, Usha Nivas
- Jinu (31) from Malampuzha, Kanjirakkadavu
- Kaladharan (33) from Vavuliyapuram, Thonipadam
The arrests were made by a joint team of Highway Police, Kalpetta Police, and a special squad. The suspects, attempting to escape in a Scorpio vehicle (KL.10 AG 7200), were intercepted and apprehended at Kainatty on the night of July 12, 2025.
All those arrested are reportedly involved in numerous criminal cases, including robbery, attempted murder, and drug trafficking. After medical examination, they were officially handed over to the Maharashtra Police.
The gang members are accused in a case registered at the Bunch Police Station in Satara district, Maharashtra. Based on intelligence that the suspects had entered Wayanad district, District Police Chief instructed all police stations in the district to be on high alert. Under the leadership of District Special Branch DySP M.M. Abdul Kareem, the specified vehicle was tracked and pursued, leading to the successful apprehension at Kainatty.
The police team responsible for the arrests included Sub Inspectors Vimal Chandran, N.V. Hareeshkumar, O.S. Benny, ASI Mujeeb Rahman, Driver SCPO P.M. Siddique, and CPO Abin.
