Tragedy Strikes: Missing Tripura Student Sneha Debnath Found Dead in Delhi; Suicide Note Recovered.

NEW DELHI, India – July 13, 2025 – The week-long search for Sneha Debnath, a 19-year-old student from Tripura who went missing in Delhi on July 7, has concluded tragically with the discovery of her body under the Geeta Colony flyover in the Yamuna river on Sunday. The heartbreaking development has sent shockwaves through the national capital and her home state.

The mystery surrounding her disappearance deepened when her family discovered a handwritten suicide note in her hostel room. In the note, Sneha reportedly wrote that she had decided to “end my life” by jumping from Signature Bridge. “I just feel like a failure and burden, and it was getting unbearable to live like this,” the note read, adding, “There is no foul play. It was my decision.” The note has since been handed over to the police and is now part of the official investigation.

Sneha, a student of Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, Delhi University, last spoke to her parents on July 7, according to news agency ANI. Her family had noted that she had not withdrawn any money from her bank account for the past four months and had left her belongings behind.

Further details reveal that on the morning of July 7, Sneha had informed her family at 5:56 AM that she would be going to Sarai Rohilla station with her friend, Pitunia. However, when her phone became unreachable after three hours, the family contacted Pitunia, who confirmed that she had not met Sneha as planned.

Later, Sneha’s family managed to trace the cab driver who confirmed dropping her close to Delhi’s Signature Bridge. The area near the bridge is known to have poor CCTV coverage, which significantly hampered early efforts to trace Sneha’s movements after she exited the cab. Technical surveillance also placed her last known location at the bridge.

Following her disappearance, the Delhi Police, along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), launched a massive search operation within a seven-kilometer radius of the suspected area. However, their extensive efforts over the past week had yielded no results until the tragic discovery of her body today.

The incident had prompted the intervention of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha. Upon learning of the matter, CM Saha had directed the police to take immediate action to locate Sneha. The Tripura Chief Minister’s Office had also acknowledged the incident on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “The report of Miss Sneha Debnath, a resident of Sabroom, who has reportedly gone missing in New Delhi, has come to the notice of the Chief Minister’s Office. Following this, necessary instructions have been promptly issued to the police to take immediate and appropriate action.”

The recovery of the suicide note provides a critical piece of the puzzle, but her sister, Bipasha Debnath, expressed bewilderment, stating the note “makes no sense.” She questioned, “There is no clue. Why was [she] depressed? What was happening? Nothing. Just four lines. If she really wanted to die, lots of ways to do it at home or nearby. You don’t have to go all the way to a place where 60 cameras are not working.” The police investigation is ongoing to piece together the full circumstances leading to this tragic event.
