Captain Williamson Sangma State University Opens PG Admissions for 2025-26 Academic Year.

SHILLONG/TURA, Meghalaya:Captain Williamson Sangma State University (CWSSU), Meghalaya’s first state-run university, has commenced the application process for its postgraduate (PG) programmes for the upcoming academic session 2025-26. Officials announced on Tuesday that prospective students can now apply for a diverse range of courses offered across the university’s Tura and Shillong campuses.

Registrar A Ch Marak confirmed that the Tura campus will host postgraduate programs in subjects including Anthropology, Economics, Education, Environmental Science, Garo, Geography, History, Philosophy, Political Science, and Sociology. Meanwhile, the Shillong campus is set to offer PG courses in Commerce, English, Khasi, and Social Work, with some of these disciplines also available at the Tura campus.

A key highlight of CWSSU’s admission process is that it does not mandate the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for its postgraduate programs. This offers a distinct advantage for students within Meghalaya, as admissions will be based on merit from their qualifying degrees. This approach contrasts with the CUET requirement for North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) and its affiliated institutions, as stipulated by the National Education Policy (NE2020).

Established in 2011 through an Act of the state government, CWSSU received formal approval for its degree-awarding status from the University Grants Commission (UGC) in December 2024, under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. The university has begun its academic operations this year, with the Shillong campus slated to open shortly.

According to official sources, the application window for PG courses will remain open for approximately two to three weeks. Detailed information regarding the application procedures and specific course offerings is available on the university’s official website. CWSSU has also granted affiliation to at least 11 colleges across the state, which will similarly admit PG students without CUET requirements.

The launch of CWSSU and its robust postgraduate offerings mark a significant milestone in Meghalaya’s higher education landscape, aiming to enhance access to quality education and provide flexible admission pathways for students across the state.
