Assam, India – July 25, 2025 – Congress Member of Parliament Gaurav Gogoi today launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, criticizing his absence from the ongoing Parliament session. Gogoi alleged that the Prime Minister’s foreign visit indicated an attempt to evade crucial discussions on pressing national issues, particularly concerning the integrity and impartiality of the Election Commission of India.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Gogoi expressed profound worry over the state of the Election Commission. “The whole nation is worried about the impartiality of the Election Commission and its right to vote,” he stated. “At a time like this, the Prime Minister is out of the country.
When the Parliament proceedings are going on and when we want discussions, he is on a foreign visit. This shows his sensitivity towards the matter.”
Gogoi further accused Prime Minister Modi of demonstrating a blatant disregard for democratic accountability, emphasizing that the increasing “politicisation” of the Election Commission is a matter of grave national concern.
He highlighted the opposition’s desire for a comprehensive discussion on these matters within the parliamentary framework, a discussion that he suggested was being sidestepped by the Prime Minister’s overseas engagements.
The Congress MP’s remarks underscore the ongoing tension between the opposition and the government regarding institutional independence and the transparency of electoral processes. His statement adds to a chorus of opposition voices demanding greater accountability and a direct response from the Prime Minister on critical national challenges.
