RAIPUR/RANCHI – A major breakthrough has been achieved by security forces in a joint operation on the border of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, where a top Maoist commander was killed in an encounter. The incident occurred in the Saranda forest area, a known stronghold of Naxalite groups.
The deceased has been identified as Nilesh Madkam, a key area commander with a significant role in the outlawed outfit’s operations in the region. The encounter took place this morning, following a specific intelligence input about the movement of a group of Naxalites.
According to preliminary reports, a joint team of security personnel from both states launched a search and cordon operation in the dense Saranda forest. The Maoist group, upon being cornered, opened fire on the security forces, leading to a fierce exchange of fire. The operation lasted for several hours before the firing from the Naxalite side ceased.
Following a search of the encounter site, the body of Nilesh Madkam was recovered, along with a significant cache of arms and ammunition. Officials believe that the killing of Madkam will be a major setback for the Maoist leadership and their activities in the area. Madkam was wanted in connection with several cases of violence and attacks on security forces and civilians.
The operation highlights the continued efforts of security agencies to neutralize top Maoist commanders and curb Naxalite influence in the Red Corridor. Further details of the operation are awaited as security forces continue their combing efforts in the area to ensure no other Naxalites are hiding.
