Gujarat: In a series of separate but significant incidents highlighting heightened border security, the Border Security Force (BSF) has arrested a senior Bangladeshi police officer and apprehended 15 Pakistani fishermen in two different operations. The arrests were a result of the BSF’s heightened vigilance and timely intervention along India’s international borders.
In West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, the BSF arrested a senior officer of the Bangladesh Police who was attempting to illegally cross into Indian territory. The officer, whose identity has been kept under wraps pending a full investigation, was caught near the Hakimpur Border Outpost. Officials stated that the arrest of a Bangladeshi police officer is a rare occurrence and an investigation is underway to determine the reason for his illegal entry and if he was part of a larger network. The officer was handed over to the West Bengal Police for further questioning.
Simultaneously, in a separate operation in Gujarat’s Kutch district, the BSF apprehended 15 Pakistani fishermen who had illegally entered Indian waters. The fishermen were caught in the Kori Creek area along with their engine-fitted country boat. The BSF’s timely patrol and coordinated action with its water wing led to the successful apprehension. The Kori Creek and nearby marshy areas are known for such maritime violations.
The fishermen have been handed over to local police for further investigation.
These incidents underscore the persistent challenges of border management and the BSF’s continuous efforts to thwart illegal incursions and smuggling activities. The arrests demonstrate the force’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of India’s international borders, both on land and at sea.
