AHMEDABAD, Gujarat – Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, on Saturday told newly appointed District Presidents of the Congress party in Gujarat that the party’s electoral defeats were not due to a lack of effort but rather to alleged irregularities in the election process.
Addressing party functionaries in Ahmedabad, Gandhi asserted, “You were not defeated, you were deceived.” Without directly naming the Election Commission, he accused the electoral process of bias and manipulation. His remarks suggest a broader critique of the fairness and transparency of recent elections.
The Congress leader’s comments come as the party seeks to reinvigorate its grassroots organization and morale, particularly in states where it has faced significant electoral setbacks. By framing losses as a result of deception rather than internal shortcomings, Gandhi appears to be attempting to galvanize party workers and maintain their spirits.
The accusation of manipulation in the electoral process is not new from the Congress party, which has previously raised concerns about various aspects of election management. Gandhi’s statement reiterates these concerns at a significant party gathering, aiming to consolidate support among the party’s cadre.
This address is part of the Congress party’s ongoing efforts to prepare for future elections and strengthen its organizational structure at the district level across the country.
