Tehran:
Reza Pahlavi, the son of Iran’s last monarch Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, has called for what he described as urgent and decisive intervention by former US President Donald Trump to address Iran’s deepening political and humanitarian crisis. In strong remarks aimed at the international community, Pahlavi said the Iranian people were facing an unprecedented moment that required immediate global leadership, particularly from the United States.
Speaking in a statement circulated among Iranian diaspora groups and international media platforms, Reza Pahlavi argued that the Islamic Republic was “at its weakest point in decades” and that sustained internal unrest had opened a historic window for democratic change.
“The Iranian people are risking their lives every day for freedom. This is not the time for silence or half-measures. The United States, under President Donald Trump’s leadership, has both the moral responsibility and the strategic leverage to act decisively,” Pahlavi said.
Call for Political, Not Military, Action
Reza Pahlavi clarified that his appeal was not for direct military intervention, but for strong political, economic, and diplomatic pressure combined with explicit support for Iran’s protest movement.
“What Iranians are asking for is not foreign troops on Iranian soil,” he said.
“They are asking for recognition, protection, and pressure on the regime that represses them. Maximum pressure, when paired with maximum support for the people, can bring real change.”
He praised Trump’s earlier “maximum pressure” policy on Iran, claiming it had significantly weakened the ruling establishment in Tehran and exposed what he called the regime’s “structural fragility.”
Criticism of Western Governments
Pahlavi sharply criticised Western governments, including sections of the US and European leadership, for what he described as appeasement of Tehran.
“Negotiating with a regime that shoots its own citizens in the streets is not diplomacy—it is betrayal,” he said.
“Every concession extends the life of this regime and prolongs the suffering of millions.”
He warned that continued engagement without accountability would embolden Iran’s leadership and increase regional instability, particularly in the Middle East.
Vision for a Democratic Iran
Reza Pahlavi reiterated that he does not seek the restoration of the monarchy but envisions a democratic, secular Iran chosen by its people through a free referendum.
“My role is not to rule, but to help unite Iranians around a peaceful transition,” he said.
“Iran belongs to its people—not to a supreme leader, not to clerics, and not to ideology.”
Appeal to Donald Trump
Addressing Donald Trump directly, Pahlavi said the former US president had a unique opportunity to shape history.
“Mr. President, you can stand on the right side of history by standing with the Iranian people,” he said.
“This is a defining moment—not just for Iran, but for the future of freedom in the region.”
Pahlavi concluded by urging Iranian citizens, especially the youth and security forces, to remain united and resist repression peacefully, stating that “the fall of fear is the beginning of freedom.”
