MIAMI: Brazil booked their place in the knockout rounds of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with an impressive 3-0 victory over Scotland in their Group C clash on Wednesday. Vinicius Junior starred for the five-time champions, scoring twice as Carlo Ancelotti’s side delivered another commanding performance.
Brazil took control early when Vinicius capitalized on a defensive mistake to open the scoring in the seventh minute. Although Scotland enjoyed spells of possession, they struggled to cope with Brazil’s pace and attacking movement.
The Real Madrid forward struck again in first-half stoppage time, heading home to double Brazil’s advantage and leave Scotland facing an uphill battle after the break.
Brazil continued to dominate in the second half and effectively sealed the result in the 61st minute when Matheus Cunha finished off a well-worked move. Midfielder Bruno Guimarães played a key role in the victory, providing two assists and controlling the tempo in midfield.
One of the most significant moments of the match came with the return of Neymar. The 34-year-old made his first appearance for Brazil since October 2023 and immediately showed his influence, creating several chances during a lively late cameo.
The victory lifted Brazil to seven points at the top of Group C, securing qualification for the knockout stage. Equally impressive has been their defensive record, with the Seleção yet to concede a goal in the tournament.
Scotland, meanwhile, remain on three points with a negative goal difference and must now wait to learn whether they can progress as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams.
Speaking after the match, head coach Carlo Ancelotti praised his team’s display.
“This was our most complete performance so far. We kept a clean sheet, controlled the game well, and showed great balance throughout. The real challenges begin now,” Ancelotti said.
With Vinicius Junior in outstanding form, Neymar back in the squad, and a solid defensive foundation, Brazil have strengthened their status as one of the leading contenders for the 2026 FIFA World Cup title.
