As part of the nationwide cleanliness assessment under the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) Phase 2’, Wayanad district will participate in the ‘Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2025’ survey scheduled from June 17 to 23. The survey aims to identify the cleanest states and districts across India based on sanitation standards.
The upcoming ‘Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2025’ will assess cleanliness across villages, households, and public spaces within Wayanad district. The survey is being coordinated at the state level by the sanitation mission under the Local Self Government Department. Nationwide, the survey will cover 21,000 villages in 761 districts, inspecting over 3.36 lakh households and 1.05 lakh public places. At least 20 villages will be surveyed in each district, with the number increasing based on population size. In Kerala, around 450 villages will be included in the assessment.
Field teams will visit 20 to 30 households in each selected gram panchayat to examine the presence of toilets, open defecation-free status, handwashing facilities, waste management practices, and wastewater disposal. Public areas will also be evaluated for cleanliness and solid/liquid waste management. The functioning of plastic waste processing units, Gobardhan biogas plants, and toilet waste management systems will be closely scrutinized.
Citizen participation is encouraged via the Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2025 mobile app, enabling direct feedback. Based on survey findings, improvement plans will be developed for areas with sanitation deficiencies. In Wayanad, survey teams will visit 45 villages across 23 gram panchayats, aiming for a top ranking through effective cleanliness initiatives.
