Austin, Texas – June 29, 2025 – Tesla has achieved a significant milestone in autonomous driving technology, successfully completing what it claims to be the world’s first fully autonomous vehicle delivery. A Tesla Model Y SUV, operating without a human driver or remote operator, drove itself from the company’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, to a customer’s home approximately 30 minutes away.

The remarkable journey saw the vehicle independently navigate a complex route that included highways, intersections, traffic signals, and city streets. Tesla released compelling footage of the delivery, starting with a three-minute teaser and followed by a full 30-minute video. The video, filmed from the back seat, showed the Model Y departing the Gigafactory garage and expertly maneuvering through various traffic scenarios, executing turns, observing stop signs, yielding at red lights, and handling real-time road conditions without any human intervention. Upon arrival, the Model Y precisely parked itself under the owner’s building.
This groundbreaking achievement has garnered widespread attention online. Tesla CEO Elon Musk amplified the news by reposting the video on X (formerly Twitter) with a succinct “Kapow.”
Ashok Elluswamy, Head of AI and Autopilot at Tesla, confirmed that the vehicle reached speeds of up to 115 kilometers per hour during the delivery. He emphasized that “There were no people in the car at all and no remote operators in control at any point. FULLY autonomous!” This highlights the advanced capabilities of Tesla’s self-driving technology.
The autonomous delivery comes just days after Tesla launched its pilot robotaxi service in Austin, offering select individuals rides in self-driving Model Y cars within a limited area. This latest feat further demonstrates Tesla’s commitment to advancing autonomous vehicle technology and its vision for a future with fully self-driving cars.
