Top Iranian Cleric Issues Fatwa Against Trump and Netanyahu, Calling Them ‘Enemies of God’.

Tehran, June 30, 2025 – A senior Iranian Shia cleric, Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi, has issued a fatwa (religious decree) against former U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing them as enemies of God.

According to Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency, the fatwa declares that any government or individual threatening Iran’s Supreme Leader or high-ranking religious authorities is considered a “mohareb” – an enemy of God under Islamic law. In Iran, being labeled a mohareb is a grave accusation that can lead to punishments such as execution, crucifixion, amputation, or exile under the country’s penal code.

Ayatollah Shirazi called on Muslims around the world to unite against the United States and Israel, urging them not to cooperate with or support the two leaders in any form. He stated that any support or alliance with such enemies is forbidden (haram) in Islam.

The decree emphasized that Muslims have a religious duty to oppose Trump and Netanyahu and to make them regret their words and actions. The fatwa also noted that any Muslim who suffers or sacrifices in this cause will be rewarded by God, likening their effort to fighting in the path of God.

The fatwa was issued amid growing tensions in the Middle East following Israeli airstrikes on Iranian military targets, retaliatory missile attacks by Iran, U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, and further Iranian assaults on U.S. bases in the region.

This religious ruling reflects the intensifying conflict between Iran and the U.S.-Israel alliance and may influence political and religious sentiment across the Muslim world.
