Srinagar:The Indian Army, as part of an ongoing counter-terrorism operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, has successfully destroyed a natural cave believed to be a hideout for militants. The action comes as security forces continue a multi-day operation aimed at neutralizing terrorists in the mountainous region.
According to reports, the operation, codenamed “Op Akhal,” began after security forces received specific intelligence about the presence of militants in the dense forests of the Dul area. On Sunday, troops established contact with the terrorists, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
By Monday morning, in a major development, a joint team of the Army and other security forces targeted and demolished a natural cave that was suspected to be a key hideout. Videos from the area showed a massive explosion followed by a plume of smoke, confirming the destruction of the location. Officials have not yet confirmed if any militants were inside the cave at the time of the blast.
This operation is part of a broader push to root out terrorism in the Kishtwar region, which has seen an increase in militant activity. Security forces have been conducting extensive search and destroy missions, and the destruction of this hideout is seen as a significant blow to the militant network operating in the area. The operation is still underway, with security personnel using drones and other advanced technologies to track and engage the remaining militants.
